El Chupacabra

A creature of about 3 to 5 feet in height has fangs, quills on its spine used also as wings, red eyes, and grey skin. Seems a lot like the imaginary gargoyle, doesn’t it? The only difference is that the creature described earlier exists or at least is said to exist. It is known as “El Chupacabra”.

This creature started appearing in Mexico, parts of central and southern America, Puerto Rico, and many other parts of the world. Its name derives from Spanish and means “Goat Sucker” because it is very well known for its attacks upon domestic animals such as goats, sheep, chickens, dogs…. After the attack, all that remains of the prey is a blood-drained corpse. On the neck of this corpse, two holes can be clearly seen through which the Chupacabra obviously sucked the blood out. After further tests on the corpses, some of the organs were found missing without any trace through which they could’ve been extracted. Could it be that the Chupacabra sucked these organs along with the blood?

It is also said that the Chupacabra possesses psychic powers; a farmer in Puerto Rico reported that over 100 chickens were put into a trance during the attack of a Chupacabra and froze in their tracks with no attempt to escape. After that, the Chupacabra killed them one by one.

Many witnesses who claimed having approached the Chupacabra remembered that this creature had a horrible and unusual smell and leaves behind it a bad stench very similar to sulfur.

On very rare occasions, the Chupacabras were said to have attacked human beings. Darryl S from Kingston reported the following along with a picture of his injury:

“On Grove Street in Kingston mass......
Numerous goats were dying at random thought to be from coyotes that have been running rampant in the area.
I went back to my barn on the eve of March 1st when I heard a window shattering scream coming from the backyard.
I ran with my gun to get the coyotes when to my surprise it was not a canine creature but none other then El Chupacabra!!
I raised my gun and fired but it sped past me in a blaze of glory, its sharp claws and tail brushing by me and ripping me to shreds...the infected wounds have still not healed....”

One of the many explanations given to the mystery of El Chupacabra is that this creature is either a pet or an experiment gone wrong by some aliens who released it here on earth. Another explanation is that the Chupacabra is a creature that was created by a secret mad scientist. This creature then got out of control and escaped this mad scientist who does not claim responsibility for these illegal experiments under penalty of jail. A veterinarian called Dawn Ramirez who studied 15 of the dead stock claims that the Chupacabra could be a mutated bat of great size and added that in her forty years as a veterinarian, she has never seen anything like this.

Until now only one dead Chupacabra corpse was found by a farmer called Jorge Talavera in La Prensa de Nicaragua on 30 August 2000. He claims to have shot it with a shotgun. The body was eaten by vultures however its remaining parts are currently under study in Escuela de Leon (Leon Teaching Hospital), where veterinarians and biologists shall be on hand to examine it. Could this body be the real body of a Chupacabra or was it just a hoax played by the farmer to gain popularity?

For the time being, we can only wait and see trying to guess what this creature is until someone succeeds in capturing a live Chupacabra.
