Peace in Action

Everyone claims to want peace, but no one actually works or studies ways to achieve it.  Moreover, everyone’s creating enemies and seemingly noble cases worth dying for in order to defend their existence. They also ignore the fact that their attempts of self-preservation are not the solution to their problems, but their source. For when someone arms himself, his surroundings will also arm themselves to protect themselves from him.

Peace isn’t just an act, but a whole non-violent way of living. It is a whole non-distressful, calm and silent existence where everybody’s free and happy. A peaceful person is usually a respectful, just, and benevolent person who helps and contributes in the advancement of the whole society. A person can only reach this level through inner peace, and as the Dalai Lama states, “Without this inner peace, no matter how comfortable your life is materially, you may still be worried, disturbed or unhappy because of circumstances.”

Why fight? It is sad that not everyone’s awake enough to realize that a fight can only be won if you fight hatred with Love, malevolence with benevolence, and evil with good. It’s as simple as it is complicated. It is only when someone’s crushed that he can be free, strong, and peaceful. It’s only when one puts his dignity aside, forgives and forgets that he can spread Love and Wisdom negating all attempts of war. When one hits another, it’s a simple sign of weakness because this unfortunate soul had nothing to defend himself with but violence. Being violent is a pure sign of weakness.

Why are there people in stages of war? Why do enemies exist in the first place? Why can’t people forgive and forget? Is it actually a Peoples’ war, or a political and military leaders’ war? The real answer is that some leaders in some countries are too spiritually weak that they resort to arm their military in order to defend what they think is threatened instead of sharing it with their neighboring countries and protecting it from any harm. Then, they find themselves in an endless and violent war due to the hate that they produced by themselves and against themselves by being enemies of other countries. And end up like Agatha Christie says “One is left with the horrible feeling now that war settles nothing; that to win a war is as disastrous as to lose one.” It’s up to the people to recognize that the answer is simple. Fight hate back with Love.

The only real way to achieve peace is by being peaceful. In order to be peaceful, we must be wise, and when you’re wise, you will only fight war with Love.
